|
Fundraising Event:
June 14th from 4-8 pm
Matthew Murphy, executive chef at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, is fighting the sudden affliction of a rare and severe blood condition. Murphy was rushed to Ochsner Medical Center on Friday and admitted to its intensive care unit, where he is now being treated for DIC, a life-threatening condition that prevents a person's blood from clotting normally.
Murphy and his wife Alicia welcomed quadruplet daughters late in 2007. Financial donations are being accepted at any Capital One Bank branch through the Matthew J. Murphy Donation Account. People may also donate blood in Murphy's name at the Ochsner Blood Bank, located on the first floor of the Ochsner Medical Center, 1514 Jefferson Highway.
The Ritz-Carlton is planning a benefit for Murphy on June 14. The benefit will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the hotel's grand ballroom and will feature cooking demonstrations and food samples from Murphy's chef friends from across Louisiana.

Erika, a Chateau Original

This month, Chateau du Lac profiles our longtime server Erika, a charming southern belle with a very friendly personality that makes her a joy to get to know.
"I like the intimacy of this restaurant because I can talk to my customers and get to know them," she says in a friendly voice that reminds you of lemonade and sunshine. Actually, Erika talks to everybody, and remembers most guests so well that even weeks later, she can greet them personally by name.
Erika loves her job at Chateau du Lac Bistro. She has been a server here since December of 2007, before we opened on Metairie Road in January of 2008. "I remember painting the walls and refinishing the bar when we were renovating," she reminisces. "Actually, I really enjoy doing that kind of thing!"
Originally interested in a fashion or art career, Erika met a patron at Chateau du Lac who discussed her own career in interior design. She told Erika, "I can see you have a sparkle in your eye when you talk about this. You need to follow your passion and know that everything else will fall on the plate for you". That was the pivotal moment that launched Erika's dream to become an interior designer. Because of this, she has begun thoroughly enjoying going to school. Erika is currently cross-enrolled, studying at the University of New Orleans as well as Delgado. Her favorite decorating style is modern contemporary, but she likes lots of styles. "Style is always interchangeable, so you can redecorate at any time and it never gets old!"
Erika comes from a large close family and was born the youngest of four. Her biggest thrill though, is with her "new" family. "I look forward to coming home every night to my two dogs, Abraham and Lola." Erika has a lot of fun working with our staff and pays special tribute to Chef Jacques. "He is a great chef who looks like he's tough, but actually he is a really fun and sweet person to be around." Her favorite dish at Chateau du Lac is the mussels and escargot. So next time you come in to dine with us, be sure to say "hello" to Erika. You might be very surprised to see that she not only remembers you, she also remembers a whole lot about your last conversation. | |
