Welcome to the New Ferst Communities!
Hall County- The county seat is Gainesville, which may have been named for early settlers in the area, or for General Edmund P. Gaines, who arrested Aaron Burr for treason. Other cities in Hall County include Clermont, Flowery Branch, Lula and Oakwood. Gainesville was the first southern city to have electric streetlights. Gainesville is often referred to as the "Poultry Capital of the World." Sumter County-The county seat is Americus. Other cities in Sumter include Andersonville, Leslie and Plains. Americus is home to Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing around the world. It is now one of the top ten home builders in the country. Other attractions in Sumter County include the newly restored Rylander Theater, the Windsor Hotel and the Georgia Rural Telephone Museum. The National Park Service has recently completed restoration of President Carter's boyhood home in Archery, outside of Plains, and has designated it a National Historic Site. Jimmy Carter, former President of the United States and former Governor of Georgia, is from Plains. Festivals in Sumter County include the Andersonville Fair and the Plains Peanut Festival. [1] Premier Academy in Atlanta is a non-profit corporation organized for the primary purpose of providing a comprehensive developmentally appropriate pre-school program for young children, as well as needed additional services. The children enrolled at the Angier Avenue Child Development Center are sponsored by the Midtown Atlanta Rotary Club.

Registration
When you are registering children, please remind parents to call or e-mail us if they are planning to move. The change of address instructions are on every newsletter. This brings me to another point-please let parents know that a newsletter is included with every book. We've heard some parents say that they didn't realize it was anything other than an address label. Parents should be educated as their children are registered. I know it will be hard to get all that information out when registering children but maybe some samples of the newsletter as well as the books will show parents what they should be receiving each month. Check your database for duplicates! If you need directions on how to do this, please e-mail Sandy so that she may give you instructions on how to check your database. If you are having any issues with the new database ( www.imaginationlibrary.com) DO NOT contact their web support. Any issues you have should be directed to Tera. |

Public Relations
We have created a success story form for your community to use when collecting testimonials/heartwarming stories. We would love for you to submit video footage so that we can post those to You Tube. If you are unable to video, please submit photos and stories so that we are able to compile them for promotional materials. If you have any questions, please contact Tera. The Atlanta Hawks are our featured supporter this month. The Atlanta Hawks Foundation recently awarded $10,000 to the Ferst Foundation. If you are planning a special event in or around Atlanta, keep the Hawks in mind as they may be able to provide representation at your event. Please contact Shauna for more information. |
