New Music at JB Linear
Did you know that the Christmas season is a great sheet music buying time? Do you have a Christmas-season related piece for woodwinds you would like to have distributed by JB Linear Music? Email me for details about distribution of your sheet music.

Marten King has added a new clarinet quartet of Beethoven's Finale, Op.18 #1. This is one of those perfect string quartets to transcribe for clarinets.  Marten's quartets are written for the standard instruments (2 Bb clarinets, Alto, and Bass).  Take a look at his page on the JB Linear web site.

Other news of JB Linear Music
  • I attended the Northwest Oboe Seminar in Portland, Oregon to exhibit my oboe music. Allen Vogel was the clinician and he and the participants performed a nice informal concert on the final evening. Mr. Vogel played some baroque pieces, including one on oboe d'amore. One of the trios played a part of "Capriccio" by Timoteus Racz, available through JB Linear. The entire group also played a version of a previous JB Linear freebie, Gavotte 1 and 2 from the Orchestral Suite #3 by Bach.
  • Arrangements are being made for JB Linear Music to carry the flute version of Fernand Gillet's "Exercices sur les Gammes, les Intervalles et le Staccato pour la Flute". (Exercises for Scales, Intervals and Staccato for Flute) Fernand Gillet was the principal oboe of the Boston Symphony for 21 years and originally wrote this book for oboe and later made this version for flute. This is a huge book with huge implications for those who undertake its study. Allen Vogel, mentioned above, was a student of Fernand Gillet.
  • The newest freebie on free-scores.com from JB Linear is one from a year ago on this newsletter: A Free Montuno. There are lots of free scores there, so take a look.
  • Here is a fun video of clarinets made from bicycles

Next month's Freebie Download: jazzy version of Pakington's Pound, the September selection - jazz chords compliments of Len Anderson, a newsletter subscriber.

Player's hint of the month:
Heard from Allen Vogel at the Northwest Oboe Seminar - Remember to take time to practice fundamentals. Mr. Vogel concentrates on one key signature per week. He practices it in various ways (straight scales, in 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths) and ends each week with arpeggio work.

Have fun playing!

Sincerely,

John Gibson
