Volunteers can expect to serve at least 20 hours over the three-month period. Strong interpersonal skills and an interest in working with low-income families from diverse backgrounds is required. Thanks to PEEHP Energy-Efficient Features Are Planned for Rivergate Commons

Habitat has been selected to participate in the City of Portland's Energy Efficient Home Pilot Project (PEEHP), a partnership with Energy Trust of Oregon, Northwest Natural, Pacific Power, PGE and other sponsors. This competitive grants program supports construction costs for a number of energy-efficient home features. The goal is to provide the industry, policymakers and the public with practical information about how greener homes perform over time. This kind of information may be useful for any future consideration of new codes or standards related to energy performance in new home construction.

PEEHP will support energy-efficient features at six homes in our 12-home Rivergate project, including insulation, windows, HVAC, water heating, and lighting. Three homes will be built to be 15% above current code requirements and another three homes will be 30%. Not only will the carbon footprints of these homes be lower, but the Habitat homeowners will also have reduced energy costs and a more comfortable home environment long-term.

All 12 homes at Rivergate will be Earth Advantage certified. PEEHP is providing an additional opportunity for Habitat to meet and even exceed EA on some of these homes with new, state-of-the-art materials. PEEHP will inform our construction practices as we continue our commitment to building green homes.
