PeaPod and 1.7 Meter classes have fallen below the 20-member minimum, and so will not have an election for Class Secretary.

Appointed directors must stand for election per bylaw 1.7.3.

Incumbent Directors must be nominated if they wish to stand for re-election (bylaw 3.3).

Per bylaw 3.3 and the AMYA Business Calendar, nominations and seconds for Director must be submitted to the Executive Secretary not later than March 3 (bylaw 15.3).

A second of a nomination is not required, but is permitted.

Per bylaw 7.7, nominations are not required for incumbent Class Secretaries. Incumbents are automatically nominated.

Other nominations and seconds for Class Secretary offices also must be received by the Executive Secretary by March 3.

Motions regarding Class Specifications, and their seconds, must also be submitted to the Executive Secretary no later than March 3. A member who submits a motion regarding Class Specifications must submit the sail number of one boat in the affected class registered to that member to verify eligibility to submit Class Specifications motions.

Motions regarding amendments to the bylaws, and their seconds, must also be submitted to the Executive Secretary no later than March 3. Bylaw 14.1 requires that motions to amend bylaws must be passed by a two thirds majority of the votes cast.

Nominations, motions, and seconds may be submitted by email to ExecutiveSec@theamya.org .

Carr Sails Rumors of the Passing of Rod Carr - FALSE!

by: Rod Carr

I have recently encountered several instances where people have indicated to me that they had heard that Carr Sails had ceased operation was no longer producing model yacht sails.

I have been unable to locate the source of this false rumor, but must emphatically respond that we are presently enjoying our 42nd continuous year of supporting the AMYA and the R/C yachting hobby. We are still in business, steadily embarrassing our competition by shipping 90% of our sails within 4 days of receiving the orders, and continuing our assistance to skippers, classes and AMYA as we have since 1970.

I would appreciate any notification or announcement that you could make within your official involvement in the sport that would set the record straight.

Thank you and a Happy New Year to all.

Rod Carr

Editors Note: I think this is a great example of some of the services that can be offered to yacht owners. Greatly minimizing the actual day to day effort it takes to grow and promote a class, while making it easier for owners to complete the tasks they need to complete.

By David Graves CR-914 Class Secretary

In September, when I took on responsibilities as the CR 914 class secretary, I announced a plan to move the class communications into a more digital mode. The basis of such a move would be a new website. I'm pleased to report to you that the new website has been built and placed into production. You can access it using the usual URL:  www.cr914class.org

The website is designed to allow both class members and class fleets to share their stories and images with the class through the website. Sharing these stories is in addition to the provision for articles that previously would have been published in the CRonicle.

Some Features:

Registration and transfers are done electronically, with provision for payments by PayPal. The database of the site hooks to on the e-mail software, Constant Contact, which allows for targeted e-mails to the database or subsets of the database. New registrations are automatically added to the database which automatically updates the Constant Contact mailing list. Fleets can use the site to distribute targeting emails. A FORUM for interchange of ideas on an informal basis is part of the website and replaces the relatively inactive forum on the Yahoo. The FORUM contains the Sell a Boat page which members can update directly. The archive of all CRonicle articles is online and fully searchable. New articles will work their way through the Latest News section and into the archive as they're written and added to the website. The website has provisions to support individual usernames and passwords to control access to any part of the website as desired.
Getting Ready to Pour Some Lead

Pour Party - January 28th

David Brawner will once again host his annual pour party In New Jersey. The pour party is where EC12 and J-Class owners come together in Dave's shop to pour lead for the boats that are under construction while discussing all things related to RC sailing, especially the construction of RC sailboats.

The pour party is responsible for the birth of many new EC12 boats and the welcoming of new EC12 owners to the fleet!
  Bulletin Call for Material

The Bulletin is published on an as needed basis. What does that mean? Generally it means when I have enough material to properly fill a Bulletin I'll publish one. My Goal is at least once a month and during the sailing months for most of the county I would really like to publish every two weeks. To make all of this happen I need your help. Please send me material for the Bulletin. A good guideline to use if you find it interesting others probably will too. Material can be such things as:

  • race results
  • photos
  • videos
  • regatta announcements
  • tips and tricks about the boats you sail
  • build parties your club may have
  • special events
  • anything that you think your fellow RC sailors would find enjoyment in reading, seeing or learning about.

Videos and links to full photo albums from events tend to get a lot of interest and clicks. Links to regatta information such as full results and NORs are also very popular. Pictures don't have to just be of boats readers love to see what is going on shore side, whether it is the volunteers who make it all happen, the sailors hanging around or the cool trophies your club hands out.

Material should be about a paragraph or two in length. Anything longer should really be published in the Quarterly. In many cases it is appropriate to publish information in both the Bulletin and the Quarterly. Occasionally for special events and news more space is afforded in the Bulletin.

Don't forget to submit your regatta information to the AMYA Regatta Calendar.
