2009 WOODS HOLE MODEL BOAT SHOW & OPEN AMYA REGATTA

The Woods Hole Historical Museum is hosting its seventh biennial Woods Hole Model Boat Show on April 18 & 19, 2009. On Saturday, the show hours are from 10 AM to 4 PM; on Sunday they are from 10 AM to 3 PM.  On both days there will be extensive exhibits, workshops, and talks on model boating throughout the Village of Woods Hole.

Vintage Model Yacht Group Historian, Earl Boebert, will lecture from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM at the Woods Hole Library on the history of the 1930s Yankee J Boat and his Yankee III 36-inch R/C J model yacht project.  From 4:15 PM to 5:00 PM VMYG member, Jane Peterson, from Portland, ME will lecture on photographing model yachts in action (also at the Woods Hole Library). Radio controlled (R/C) model sailing and racing will be held on Eel Pond (in the Village), and R/C scale power boaters will exhibit and demonstrate their models in a pool on the museum lawn. In 2007, there were more than 125 model boats on display; and the staff is hoping for even more this year.

Please spread the word on the 2009 Woods Hole Model Boat Show plus the AMYA Open regatta on Saturday, April 18, for fleets of small (under 40-inch) and large (40-inch & over) class models.  The Museum will supply trophies for the top skippers in each fleet.  On Sunday, there will be informal R/C model sailing in Eel Pond to provide "hands-on" mentoring opportunities for show visitors.  If you would like to display an AMYA boat or early model yacht, that option is available at an expansive, two-day indoor exhibit being co-sponsored by the AMYA and US VMYG. All skippers, exhibitors, regatta volunteers, and sailing mentors qualify for free admission to this two-day Show.  In addition, they are invited to an informal 5 PM party in the Woods Hole Library on Saturday after the Show.

Contact Jim Linville at <jimisu@comcast.net> or 781-925-0045 for information and/or an Entry Form.

Bulletin Page

Thanks to some hard work by Pete Maxson and John Skerry, we passed a balanced AMYA budget.  Pete will be posting the details on the AMYA website.

Speaking of the website, you should no longer send update requests directly to the webmaster.  Please send anything that used to go to the webmaster to Chuck Buzek from now on.

All past issues of the Bulletin, no matter which name it had on it, are available here

Submissions are accepted.  Do you have something quick you want to get to a bunch of people?  Sure send it in.  However, anything more than a paragraph really belongs in the AMYA magazine, Model Yachting

As always, thanks for reading.

AMYA Region 2 Director
