Unleashing Your Innovation Potential
News & Events from Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre

Greetings!

You have no doubt heard about the ACT budget. Lighthouse is particularly excited about the broad based investment in the Brand Canberra campaign. This is part of a wider investment to promote and support Canberra's many advantages, including education, research and cultural institutions, to build for the future and create a thriving knowledge-based economy and promote Canberra as a place to do business. The strategy builds on existing business programs including Canberra BusinessPoint, Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre and the Innovation Connect and Trade Connect programs.

Canberra BusinessPoint is calling for nominations for this year's awards. The Canberra BusinessPoint Awards recognise innovation, effective business and marketing planning and future potential in small businesses in the ACT. The awards acknowledge the diversity of start-ups and existing business in the ACT. There will be six categories and an overall winner selected. See the Spotlight for more details.

We will also be holding our first evening Business Canvas Workshop on Thursday, 19 July 2012. The Business Canvas is a simple 'hands on' tool that addresses key aspects of your business idea or model.  This approach gets straight to the heart of your business or idea and highlights any potential strengths and weaknesses. This approach uses a visual chart with elements describing the business's value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances. Scroll down to view the Events section of this newsletter for more upcoming events.

Kind regards,

Anna Pino, Cindy Reese Mitchell, Su Hodge, Lachlan Blackhall, Lyn Robbins and Lauren Mitchell

Secrets of Successful High-Earning Women
24 July 2012

Based on the best-selling book, 'Overcoming Underearning' by Barbara Stanny, Lighthouse's Commercialisation Manager Cindy Reese-Mitchell will define and explore underearning and the five secrets to overcoming it. It is designed specifically to empower and motivate women to take control of their finances by guiding them in the creation of a concrete plan of action.

Ultimately, this session isn't about money. Money is a metaphor for claiming power. A powerful woman is someone who knows who she is and can express that in the world. Money is a potent tool for living life on your own terms. Conversely, there's no better way to limit your power than by limiting your earning potential.
