Canberra BusinessPoint
Commercial Law Clinic
11 April 2012

CBP Clinics are one-on-one, confidential sessions between a service provider and Canberra BusinessPoint client.   In this session, you can receive advice about your specific commercial law needs.

Seeing the Forest for the Trees -
Board Governance for Start-Ups
30 April 2012

"Why is it that management teams in start-ups assume their Board wants to get down into the weeds at every Board meeting? Why do Directors buy into this approach and behave like weed inspectors? Board Governance isn't about inspecting everything that management is doing; it's about holding management accountable for those things that are material."

That quote is from a veteran Senior Executive who has been part of several technology start-ups in the US and Australia.

But, does this sound like your Board?

This Canberra BusinessPoint Master Class will define what 'good governance' really means from the unique perspective of the start-up. It will explore the boundaries between strategic and operational management and the role of the Board and of Management. This would include relationships, engagement across  boundaries, managing expectations, setting agendas with the CEO/EO, etc.

It will offer practical principals and suggestions to assist you in steering your Board out of the weeds and focussed on the strategically guiding the business through an ever-more competitive global marketplace.

The event is ideal for company founding directors with limited prior business or board experience or any new directors of pre-revenue companies (or early-staged) start-up companies.

CBP Master Classes are designed to be highly interactive; therefore the numbers are strictly limited. The presentation of material will be limited (and case-study focussed) so that there will be plenty of time to ask your specific questions.
