Unleashing Your Innovation Potential
News & Events from Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre

Greetings!

Lighthouse was honoured to be a finalist in the ACT 2012 International Women's Day Awards. We congratulate Women With Disabilities ACT for receiving the Community Award and Kathy Richards for the Individual Women's Award.

April is shaping up as a busy month for Lighthouse with two Canberra BusinessPoint events.  We are bringing back our very popular commercial law clinics, this time with Minter Ellison Lawyers.

In our clinic sessions, we offer 50 minute consultations with an experienced service provider  for a fraction of their hourly rate - each clinic session costs $50.  Also, to help you get the most out of your session, we have a confidential discussion with you ahead of the session to fully define your issues. To date, the most popular issues have been contracts and website terms and conditions.  Any non-patent related legal issue facing your business is welcomed.  Just ring us on on 6163 8300 to discuss and we'll let you know if we can offer you an appointment.

The fifth Brilliant Idea round for ACT micro-credit loans for women has closed and new applications are being reviewed.

Our pilot of the Business Model Canvas Workshop was well received by women entrepreneurs. It's a great tool for getting to the heart of a business idea, no matter what the size and scope of the business. We will soon be offering this as one of our core products.

Kind regards,
Anna Pino, Cindy Reese-Mitchell, Su Hodge, Lachlan Blackhall, Lyn Robbins and Lauren Mitchell

Board Governance for Start-Ups
Canberra BusinessPoint

At the end of April, we are tackling the vexing issue of Board Governance for Start-Ups - this workshop will give inventors, researchers, and first-run entrepreneurs the 'low-down' on Boards - why do you need one, how can they help your business even at the pre-revenue stage and how can you keep them from becoming a de-facto management committee.

We are pleased to be partnering with ANU Connect Ventures as a co-sponsor in the delivery of this event.  Our facilitator, Lisa Norman is an experienced presenter on the subject of Board Governance and has worked closely with us to tailor this presentation to our target audience.  We have limited the capacity on this one, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Fee applies, $50 per person.

Peer Group Support Sessions are now being held bi-monthly with workshops and clinics held the following month. This gives participants the opportunity to further explore the topics discussed at group sessions. If space permits, these free events are open to women entrepreneurs interested in the Brilliant Idea program and who may not be a loan recipient or applicant. These events are provided through the generosity of program mentors and supporters.
