Greetings!
March is the official start of our Master Class program for 2012. On 2 March, we have the dynamic and internationally renowned expert on Chinese manufacturing, Lindy Chen, coming to Canberra exclusively for Canberra BusinessPoint. Our second session will be on the tricky topic of Board Governance for start-up companies. Why do you need a board? How do you keep them focussed on organisation strategy and out of the 'weeds'? Those two questions will be addressed in that session.
This month saw the return of the Canberra BusinessPoint clinics as well, starting with Industrial Relations with Greg Schmidt from the ACT Chamber of Commerce. That event was fully booked out with employment contracts reviews being the most requested topic.
Our next clinic will be in April and we are partnering with Minter Ellison Lawyers for its delivery. Our Commercial Law Clinics are, by far, our most popular events, so please book early. You can find more information on Canberra BusinessPoint Master Classes and Clinics at www.canberrabusinesspoint.com.au.
Finally, Lighthouse is also gearing up its programming for 2012 with a Brilliant Idea and Entreprenuer Development Fund rounds both open. Feel free to contact us to any time to discuss your eligibility for either of those program.
Yours sincerely,
Anna Pino, Cindy Reese Mitchell, Su Hodge, Lachlan Blackhall, Lyn Robbins and Lauren Mitchell PS-- You SUCC! Start Up Camp Canberra returns by popular demand, 4-6 May 2012. Visit www.startupcampcanberra.com for regular updates and booking information.

Manufacturing in China - expert lessons on outsourcing to Australia's largest trading partner
|
|
Now that you've got your basic design complete, identified your initial target market and method of distribution, you are ready to manufacture. But, choosing a manufacturing partner isn't as simple as looking in the Yellow Pages. You've heard about outsourcing to China - but how do you start? What sort of things do you need to know? This is the topic of the first Canberra BusinessPoint Master Class for 2012. Our discussion leader for this topic will be Lindy Chen. Lindy is the Founder of China Direct Sourcing. She is a highly sought-after speaker on this topic throughout Australia and this is her first time presenting in Canberra. Please book early for this event and be prepared with questions, such as: - Is it feasible for me to source or manufacture in China?
- What about Intellectual Property- is my IP safe?
- What do I need to know about logistics - lead time, payment terms, currencies, insurance, etc?
- What are the benefits of working with an intermediary versus dealing direct myself?
CBP Master Classes are designed to be highly interactive; therefore the numbers are strictly limited to 25. The presentation will be limited so that there will be plenty of time to ask your specific questions.
The event is ideal for: - New and emerging SMEs contemplating manufacture on any scale
- Established businesses and experienced importers interested in networking and exploring additional opportunities in China
