Unleashing Your Innovation Potential
News & Events from Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre

 Greetings!

Canberra has always been a hot-bed of innovation stemming from our strong local knowledge based industries. However, in the last 12 months, we've seen a real increase in the number of our clients with  tangible products and inventions (we like to call them 'widgets').

As a result, we've expanded our internal capacities to better address key areas for invention and design entrepreneurs-including patents (especially searching), design, prototyping and manufacture.   Taking a new product to market in this era of global competition is not for the timid-or the cash strapped.  For our final event for 2011, we would like to share our experience.  We are hosting a 1 day event called DesignRight on 4 Nov at the Anne Harding Conference Centre at the University of Canberra.  Registrations are now open.  Early Bird Registrations close this week!

The purpose of DesignRight is to help local designers and inventors understand and try to avoid the horrendously expensive mistakes that can come from not understanding the steps involved in taking new 'widgets' or designs to market.  The event will include 'war stories' for successful local inventors and designers, presentations from industrial design firms experienced in working with inventors and, finally, sessions on making money through intellectual property.

For this event, we are partnering with the University of Canberra.  Constantly innovating, UC is working to build more connections between its various Faculties and the thriving local business community.  At Lighthouse, we encourage collaboration with our local institutions who can be a valuable source, not only of labour, but a range of services related to market validation and testing of new ideas.

DesignRight is for anyone who's ever had an idea and thought, "I bet I could make money from that!"  You will leave the event with a new perspective and a much larger support network to make that dream a reality.

We hope to see you there!

Kind Regards,

Your Lighthouse Team
