Greetings!
Welcome to the 'new look' Lighthouse newsletter. As our service offerings have expanded, so has the need for us to more effectively streamline our communication with our stakeholders. We hope to use this newsletter to provide you with updates to the activities of Lighthouse and the specific programs that we manage, including Canberra BusinessPoint, the ACT Microcredit Program for Women on Low Incomes as well as our support of Capital Angels.
In the last 12 months, we have seen approximately 200 clients. Many of these individuals become long-term clients who we see progress through the full business development pathway: from concept viability assessment to proof of concept to early-stage commercialisation. Along the way, we draw on resources throughout the community, including business service providers, investors and mentors. Developing these long-term relationships is one of the most rewarding features of our delivery model.
We've hosted a range of successful events in partnership with NICTA, ANU, University of Canberra, ACT Government and Capital Angels. Highlights from this year include the second annual Start-Up Camp Canberra which saw 30 intrepid technology entrepreneurs working over a weekend on a new business idea. Another highlight was our presentation, with Joy Birch, MLA, of the first receipients of the Brilliant Idea Microcredit Loans for small business establishment. We are already working on an exciting and comprehensive range of programs/events for 2011.
Lighthouse provides its services to current and aspiring business leaders in the ACT and Region at no charge. That task would be impossible without the continued support of the ACT Government Department of Industry and Business Development and Epicorp Limited. We are grateful for their support and strategic influence on the breadth and direction of Lighthouse services.
Please note that Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre will be closed for the Christmas Holiday period from 12pm on 24th December until Tuesday, 4th January 2011.
From all of our families to yours, best wishes for a safe and relaxing holiday season.
Anna Pino, Cindy Reese, Su Hodge, Lyn Robbins and Lauren Mitchell
