Mentors Needed!
At Lighthouse, our primary aim is to assist early and growth
stage business to become investor ready.
We accomplish this through one-on-one consultancy, high-value
programming/events and hands-on project management and business development.
Frequently, our clients can also benefit from the skills and
experience of other business people-those who have 'been there, and done
that'. So, Lighthouse uses its extensive
networks to 'match' our clients with appropriate entrepreneurs and/or service
providers.
This 'matching' service is free and our mentors generally
contribute their time in the first instance.
However, should a client decide to pursue a more formal engagement, then
they are free to do so. There are even
programs available to assist with the costs of formal mentoring, such as the
ACT Government's InnovationConnect
program.
What sorts of things can a Lighthouse Mentor assist you
with? Examples include:-
Issues of Corporate Governance, including the
effective managements and running of your board of directors
-
Business Development and Sales (e.g. marketing
plan, tender preparation, contract negotiations)
-
Assistance with the engagement of business
service providers
-
Executive Coaching and issues of work/life
balance
-
Strategic Planning (including meeting
facilitation)
If you have already registered your interest with us as a
prospective mentor, then thank you very much.
We appreciate your willingness to help our clients and we will contact
you when we think we have an opportunity that might be suited to you
capabilities.
Additionally, we will be contacting you in the weeks regarding
a very special event we are planning specifically for our valued mentors.

2009: Year in Preview
The consensus from the pundits is the 2009 will be a tough year for business, but that opportunities remain for the nimble and adaptable. At Lighthouse, our indications are that entrepreneurs are using these nervous times to re-evaluate their business models and to whether downward pressure on prices by stepping up their sales and marketing activities in order to improve market share.
Here are some more predictions from a favourite Z-D Net blogger, Larry Dinigan. Do these hold water for the ACT and Region in your opinion?

Angel Investing
According to a Kauffman Foundation Report commissioned in
2007, the following three factors contribute to the success of Angel
investments:
- Due
diligence time: More hours of due diligence positively relates to greater
returns.
-
Experience:
An angel investor's expertise in the industry of the venture in which they
invest also is related to greater returns.
-
Participation:
Angel investors that interacted with their portfolio companies at least a
couple of times per month by mentoring, coaching, providing leads, and/or
monitoring performance experienced greater returns.
