A Legacy Worth Remembering...
| Since 1922, Pikes Peak United Way has been reaching out to those in need within our community. Although needs have changed, Pikes Peak United Way's ability to touch and save lives has remained the same.

Together, we're helping children like 11 year old Freddie, whose mother passed away from cancer and whose house burned down leaving him and his family homeless...
And single moms like Julie who, with her three boys, was abruptly left abandoned and alone...
And the countless elderly, working poor and disabled veterans living on limited incomes in need of nourishment that people like James help every day.
With your support, we can continue to touch and save lives. It's a legacy worth remembering, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Waldo Canyon Fire Inspires Hope
| For many residents in El Paso and Teller Counties, the Waldo Canyon Fire was one of the most impactful events to occur in the Pikes Peak Region. In the aftermath of the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history, our community has been inspired. Individuals impacted by the fire don't want to be called "victims," but rather, "survivors." Generous residents donated over a million pounds of food and material goods, and over a million dollars to various non-profit organizations providing assistance.

Pikes Peak United Way is among the organizations looking to the future and working to establish support for the recovery efforts for survivors and the community as a whole. The Waldo Canyon Fire Victim Assistance Fund was established with a seed grant of $125,000 from El Pomar Foundation. Since the fund was established, over $800,000 has been pledged and contributed from the tremendous support from the community.
The main goal of the fund is to provide near and intermediate-term support to nonprofit organizations providing direct services to individuals affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire. The fund will be distributed by an advisory committee in an open and transparent manner with funds expected to be exhausted by the end of the year.

Donations for the Waldo Canyon Fire Victim Assistance Fund accepted until August 31, 2012.

2-1-1 Fiscal Year End Dashboard
| The July 2011-June 2012 fiscal year has been a busy one:
- 2-1-1 provided information and referral to 28,336 residents in need
- The average caller was a 42 year old parent, living on $1,100 per month
- 2-1-1 was activated by the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management and staffed the Emergency Operations Center 24 hours a day to provide the most up-to-date information during the wildfires
- 2-1-1 collaborated with the Suicide Prevention Task Force, the Not One More Child coalition, facilitated the Health Fair Collaborative & partnered with the Calhan Community Outreach Center
None of this could have been accomplished without the hard work and devotion of the local organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those in need. Take a look at the 2-1-1 Fiscal Year End dashboard for the full year in review. |
