2010-2011 FISCAL YEAR IN REVIEW:
It has been a very successful fiscal year for Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1:
- 2-1-1 has made a positive impact by providing information and referrals to 26,000+ residents in need in our community.
- 2-1-1, in partnership with Catholic Charities, started a pilot program to provide face-to-face information and referral to those seeking help at the Marian House. PPUW's first Annual Day of Action centered on creating awareness of 2-1-1 by distributing 750 door hangers to residents of the Hillside and Mill street neighborhoods. 2-1-1 has received several requests for assistance from the door hangers providing help to those who may not otherwise have known about this free, confidential resource.
- 2-1-1's Advisory Council is working hard to close the service gaps in our community and find new and innovative ways to serve vulnerable populations.
On June 22nd, 2-1-1 celebrated its seventh anniversary and has proudly served thousands of Coloradans in need of basic health and human services. Overwhelmingly, the top need over the last 7 years has been utility assistance. In a still slow economy, 2-1-1 is seeing a 34% increase in first time callers for the fiscal year. In response, 2-1-1 is working diligently to create awareness of this invaluable community resource and increase the agencies and programs in our database to serve vulnerable populations.
Even with all the positive impact, there's still a lot of work to be done. 49% of the clients who called 2-1-1 in the fiscal year have an annual income of less than $10,000, 52% of the clients were unemployed and 34% were first time 2-1-1 callers. Working collaboratively with our 2-1-1 partners, we hope to see those numbers decline for the next fiscal year by lending a hand up in providing essential information and referral. Together, we can make a difference. |
