Day of Action

Many Pikes Peak Region residents are having a tough time meeting their basic needs.

Last year alone, the Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1 Information and Referral hotline provided 50,401 referrals for 25,684 callers in need.

That's why our first annual Day of Action is all about creating awareness and advocating for our local 2-1-1 center.  You'll also learn more about poverty and the needs in our community.

To participate, check out the flyer for more information or contact Aimee Liotino by email or phone at 719.955.0762.

VolunteerDayMore than 32% of people in Colorado volunteer on a regular basis each year, serving their communities and saving organizations millions of dollars.

Last month, we recognized outstanding volunteers and their contributions to our community at Volunteer Day.

Take a look at the photos and see who won!

EPIC

EPIC

Mary Atchison, Executive Director of EPIC, emphasizes the importance of investing in early childhood education

For every $1 invested in the education of a child, the return on investment is approximately 10% per year as a result of:

  • Less need for remedial & special education classes
  • Less need for police and judicial system activity
  • Lower costs for prisons
  • Reduced public spending on health care
  • Savings due to fewer people in need of social services supports such as food stamps and TANF
  • Increased tax revenues from employed citizens

FundAllocationThank You to our 2011

Fund Allocation Volunteers!
Fund Allocation

This year, over 66 veteran Fund Allocation volunteers visited 68 Partner Agency programs to evaluate accomplishments and performance based on last year's funding process.

PPUW's funding for partner agency programs is on a two-year funding cycle with 2011 being the mid-cycle review.  This year, volunteers are tasked with determining if

the program is accomplishing its intended results, how the funds are being used and making a final pass/fail recommendation to the PPUW Board for continued funding.

"Visiting agencies and hearing their stories always touches my heart, and this year was no different" said third-year volunteer Diane Belger.  "I am honored to partner with PPUW as a volunteer to serve our community!"

If you would like to participate in the 2012 Fund Allocation, contact Aimee Liotino by email or phone at 719.955.0762.
