LIVE UNITED
Greetings!

Despite the crazy Colorado weather we've been having lately, it truly is the spring season here in El Paso and Teller counties and with spring comes a sense of renewal, vibrant growth, and energetic activity.

The same is true for Pikes Peak United Way.  From Fund Allocations to the 2-1-1 Act, from School Readiness to the Community Celebration, we are constantly striving to LIVE UNITED throughout the Pikes Peak Region.

8,000
That's how many books will be delivered throughout 2010 to newborns at local hospitals as part of the Brainy Bunch program.

Another Incredible Fund Allocation Process

More than 150 community members stepped up to the difficult challenge of deciding which programs deserve funds from the PPUW Community Fund!

Fifteen teams considered 72 programs in five different Impact Areas (Child Care Fund, Community Wellness, Strong Families, Successful Kids, and Tools for Living).

Despite requests for funding being three times the amount volunteers had to divvy out... Read more!
2-1-1 Needs Your Support!

2-1-1This year, United Way is closer than ever in passing the Calling for 2-1-1 Act, which would offer financial support to maintain and improve 2-1-1 - one of the most universal N-1-1 services in the country and the only one that does not receive dedicated funding.

It's Time to Celebrate!  RSVP
As the economic downturn lingers with us, the need in the community has risen. But thanks to hundreds of local companies, we continue to inspire hope to those who are struggling. We are grateful for the difference they continue to make in our community.

To celebrate our partnership and the conclusion of this year's campaign, we will be hosting our 2010 Community Celebration, Thursday, June 17th.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Barb Furr-Brodock by email or phone at 719.955.0730

We take this time to honor the companies, employees, partners, organizations, and volunteers who help Pikes Peak United Way LIVE UNITED in this community.  Without their help, thousands would be without the help they truly need.

We take this time to say, "Thank you!"

Women's Leadership Council Celebrated its First Birthday!
WLC Birthday Cake
Roughly one year ago, the volunteers of the Women's Leadership Council set their purpose to promote initiatives that support lifelong learning to empower our community.

The women of the WLC celebrated their growth and accomplishments at a big birthday bash May 20th.

The party featured a special presentation from Dr. Barbara Swaby, a national advocate for reading and literacy and a birthday cake topped with their signature red bookshelves.

Happy Birthday, WLC!
