For January 1 - March 31 2010, PPUW 2-1-1 took 6,153 calls and made almost 10,000 referrals.  Of those, 82 calls were to the Spanish line and 330 calls were from seniors.  The top six calls for service were:

  1. Utility bill assistance (1426 calls, 3837 referrals)
  2. Rent assistance (589 calls, 964 referrals)
  3. Food (501 calls, 1150 referrals)  
  4. Medical  (300 calls, 577 referrals)
  5. Legal (223 calls, 398 referrals)
  6. Shelter referrals (194 calls, 547 referrals)
2-1-1 Referrals for Utility Bill Assistance
 

CO 211For the period January 1 - March 31 2010, Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1 saw a 20% increase in calls requesting financial assistance to help pay utility bills.  We received 1,713 calls (and made 4,573 referrals) compared to 1,377 calls in the same period of 2009. 

 
The Citizens Option to Provide Energy (COPE) program offers one-time utility bill assistance in a 12-month period.  Another resource that runs from November through April is the Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).  LEAP also offers one-time utility bill assistance in a 12-month period.  For more information on either of these utility bill assistance programs, contact Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1 by dialing 2-1-1, 955-0742, or 866-488-9742.
2-1-1 Invitation to Agencies
 

Call Center PictureA 2-1-1 Community Specialist is available for any organization that could benefit from a presentation about our services to its employees or members.  We strive to have all of our services complete, accurate, and up to date to better serve members and the organizations in this community.  If your organization's information or services have changed, if you would like to be added to the PPUW 2-1-1 database for referrals to the community, or to request a 2-1-1 presentation, please contact Elizabeth at 719-955-0768.  Agencies are also able to access 2-1-1 for referrals by calling or searching the website at www.ppunitedway.org.


Tax Preparation Assistance
 

HandOnce again in 2010, Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1 partnered with the Piton Foundation to provide information and referrals on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), as well as free tax preparation and other tax credits benefitting low to moderate wage earners.  2-1-1 provided 627 referrals for tax credits and free filing in 2010.


Pikes Peak United Way (PPUW) 2-1-1
Pikes Peak United Way (PPUW) 2-1-1 is an information and referral service connecting callers to the "best fit" for local health and human service providers.  PPUW 2-1-1 serves residents of Chaffee, Cheyenne, El Paso, Lincoln, Park, and Teller counties.  Some types of information and referrals given to the community through PPUW 2-1-1 are:
  • Basic human needs: food, clothing, shelter, gas vouchers, bus tokens, rent and utilities assistance;
  • Physical and mental health: medical care, health insurance programs, crisis intervention services, support groups, counseling and local health fairs;
  • Work support: financial assistance, job training, employment counseling, and education;
  • Support for seniors and people with disabilities: Adult Resources for Care and Help (ARCH), Meals on Wheels, respite care, home health care, transportation, independent living assistance, and a new Emergency Evacuation Registry;
  • Children and family support: child care, camps and recreational programs, mentoring, and protective services;
  • Other services: tax preparation, spay and neuter services and animal food cupboard;
  • And much more....
 
Free, confidential, bilingual English and Spanish and translation services for other languages.
