Frozen Tempest by Paul Marcellini

"As icebergs calve off Vatnajökull and flow out to sea, many are washed back onto the beach in Jokulsarlon, Iceland. This stormy morning provided a nice brooding backdrop to display the glow of this ancient ice. This was a difficult shoot, with 2 cameras being lost by other parties to the waves. I was fortunate, but had a tough time because with every inrush of water, the composition could be dramatically changed. After this shot was taken, this 6 foot iceberg cracked in half and floated out to sea."

Each week the moderators and staff of NatureScapes select one photo that particularly stands out in each of the image critique galleries. This photo becomes that gallery's Image of the Week, and at year end one image is selected from these to be the gallery's Image of the Year.

With so many wonderful images we have also included two images as Honorable Mentions in each gallery.

This exciting adventure takes us to the tiny remote island of St. Paul in Alaska's Pribilofs. Situated in the Bering Sea, St. Paul Island attracts hundreds of thousands of seabirds to nest in its vertical cliffs, and the majority of the world's population of Northern Fur Seals to bear and raise young on its shores.

Alan and Greg are both expert birders and photographers and each offer their own style and unique skills when it comes to not only teaching the nuances of bird photographing but also working with people in a small group setting. Read more »
