Chittenango Falls, New York - by Kari Post

"Overcast days can be ideal for waterfall photography, as the soft diffused light helps balance the contrast between bright, flowing water and dark, wet rocks. Unfortunately overcast skies are often an uninteresting flat dull gray color, so including them in a photograph rarely adds anything to the image. For this shot of Chittenango Falls in upstate New York, I allowed the waterfall to spill into the frame, eliminating the boring overcast sky, and instead created depth and interest by including the winding creek downstream of the waterfall in the foreground. The result is a aesthetically pleasing image with rich colors and a strong composition."

Equipment Used: Canon 1D Mark II N, 17-40mm f/4L USM at 40mm, 1/2 second, f/18, ISO 100, tripod.

Fisheye Lens Landscapes
by Darren Huski

Wide angle lenses are a staple of landscape photography. The wide angle zoom seems to be the modern standard in everyone's camera bag. Often, when a grand landscape presents itself, the wide zoom is the first and sometimes only lens that gets used. It seems that "go wide and include everything in the image" is one of the more popular way folks photograph. Those who like this style should consider going beyond really wide and trying a fisheye lens... Read full article »
