Herring Gull with Fish - Christopher Dodds "Captured during one of a series of Gannets Galore Photo Safaris / Workshops that I run each year at Bonaventure Island in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, just off the Gaspé peninsula; now the largest Northern Gannet colony in the world. I took my group to a sheltered cove where I knew there would be Common Eiders and their babies. It didn’t take long for us to locate the Eiders and see Great Black-Backed and Herring Gulls snatching fish from the hard-working Ducks. I quickly realized that the lesson of the day would be all about side light, and its ability to add drama and accentuate high action water splashes." 	Making the Most of Bad Weather by Bret Edge Wouldn't it be grand if every photo vacation involved puffy clouds filling an azure sky above rugged peaks, deep canyons or vast deserts awash in alpenglow every morning and every evening of our trip? 	A Photographers Guide to West Texas by Darren Huski Texas is known as a big state, but it is probably not really known as nature photography destination, except for hill country wildflowers. Most people also think of Texas as flat. Put those two together and that pretty much keeps photographers away. Now, in the populated eastern 2/3 of the state flat is a fairly accurate description. There are a variety of ecosystems in Texas but flat seems to win out. What most folks overlook is that hidden in the thinly populated deserts of west Texas are 29 mountain ranges, two national parks, several state parks, and a more than a few neat towns that make it fantastic photography destination. It offers up views on par with any of the highly visited national parks but in a place few people know of and fewer people visit. Read full article >

	Denali Bear Killed - Update "Eight days into Denali's summer season, the first with the "concealed carry law" permitting firearms in the park, today a hiker shot nine shots from a sidearm at a grizzly he thought was menacing him. He thinks he hit it but no bear, wounded or otherwise, has been found yet in this popular hiking area. Several adjacent areas are closed and an armed NPS party is looking for the bear.
