Herring Gull with Fish - Christopher Dodds "Captured during one of a series of Gannets Galore Photo Safaris / Workshops that I run each year at Bonaventure Island in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, just off the Gaspé peninsula; now the largest Northern Gannet colony in the world. I took my group to a sheltered cove where I knew there would be Common Eiders and their babies. It didn’t take long for us to locate the Eiders and see Great Black-Backed and Herring Gulls snatching fish from the hard-working Ducks. I quickly realized that the lesson of the day would be all about side light, and its ability to add drama and accentuate high action water splashes." Equipment Used: Canon EOS-1D MKIV, 800mm F5.6 L IS. ISO 400, 1/2000s F5.6 Manual. 580EXII Flash manual full power. Tripod & Wimberley Head II. Full Frame. Christopher Dodds is a full-time Nature Photographer, blogger and Photography Workshop / Safari teacher. He is also a moderator of the NatureScapes bird forum.
