 January, 2012
Happy new year
Dear

I hope you had a great holiday season, and that the transition back into "normal life" has been smooth and enjoyable.

We closed the studio down over the holidays, and went "deep," but in a different way from our usual practice.  To give you an idea of what we were up, we snapped a few pictures.

Tyler and Sara
Tyler Hay of Iron Roots Home and Property Company, and Sara Bradley of Bradley Engineering, taking a break from working in the crawlspace under the studio building. ("Crawl" is a very liberal term for the amount of space down there.)

Then, they added hot water tubing under the whole building.  It's held in place by heat reflecting metal plates stapled to the underside of the floor.  After that, a layer of reflective paper to further disperse and direct the heat.  Then, finally 6 inches of environmentally friendly insulation.  A LOT of it:

Twenty-seven bundles of insulation.

Finally, filling the system with water for the first time.  No leaks!

We officially start our winter schedule next week, and in the meantime, we're all stoked up to celebrate this Saturday, with our open house.

Open House "Studio Warming" Party

This year, there is so much to celebrate.  Two years ago, on January 4, 2010, we held our first class in the new studio.  It was

-20 outside and the studio floor temperature was in the lower single digits.  We decided to temporarily add electric baseboard heat to the crawlspace until we could figure out a better long term solution.

Although the baseboard heat worked reasonably well, it was not a sustainable solution.  We decided on an in-floor hot water system fuelled by a natural gas domestic hot water tank. Thanks to two successful and busy years at the studio, we were able to install the new system this winter.  We also have the option in the future of adding solar water panels on the roof to preheat the water.

To celebrate and show our gratitude to the community (and to show off our new warm floors), we're having an open house THIS SATURDAY.  We'll have light refreshments and some great door prizes:

1 hour Thai Yoga Massage with Caroline

1 hour massage with Tony Tavares - Norwood Holistic Health Ctr

Cook book by Louise Racine of Thirteen Moons Retreat Centre

Ultra thin travel yoga mat

Open Heart - Yoga/meditation cd

Canvas bag imprinted with the Wavelengths Yoga

And some other exciting prizes and give-aways.

And while we're celebrating, this year has a couple other important milestones.  It's the 10th year that Wavelengths Yoga has been in business, and 20 years since I started teaching yoga.

Please join me to celebrate on:

Saturday, January 14, 2012

2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  (Please note time change from last notice)
