Dear
This September brings an exciting new beginning to Wavelengths Yoga. We are starting our first 225 hour yoga teacher training program with a full class of 14 dedicated students.
Wavelengths is now designated a Yoga School, with recognition from Yoga Alliance, a certifying body for yoga instructors and schools. Graduates will not only get comprehensive training in the fundamentals of teaching yoga, they will also be recognized across North America by the designation RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) upon completion of the program and registration with Yoga Alliance.
So, it truly is "back to school" for Wavelengths this fall!
As always, we continue our full schedule of regular studio classes, with the addition of an early morning class on Fridays, welcoming Kathy Herrold as the instructor.
Classes begin on September 19. At this time, there is still space in all the classes, however, they are filling up quickly. Register now to ensure your spot.

Yoga Anatomy Workshop
|
Yoga Anatomy with JJ Gormley
We welcome JJ Gormley to Wavelengths Yoga, October 28-30.
In this workshop, JJ will present (from the yogi-s perspective) the anatomy of our muscular and skeletal systems, as well as major organs.
When JJ presents these systems through the yogi-s eyes, she overlaps the anatomy of the chakra system with the anatomy of the above systems. This allows participants to categorize the body in a different way by looking at what each chakra area of the body has working in and for that particular chakra. In this way participants get a more in-depth and wholistic picture of the inner and outer workings of the body/mind...
About JJ:
JJ Gormley, Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500), Yoga Educator and Yoga Therapist, began practicing yoga in 1979.
In 1994, JJ began teaching teachers and now teaches several yoga teacher trainings in various location in the U.S. and as a guest teacher internationally.

JJ has produced many yoga training manuals and handouts, yoga videos/DVDs, and a chanting CD.

Yoga For Equestrians
|
You've been asking for Yoga for Equestrians, so I decided to do a little research from the back of a horse. Chloe and I met on June 15 (through trainer, Shannon Belanger of Norwood, who is also a yoga practitioner!). The three of us have been working together to develop a workshop that will touch on:
- preparing to ride: develop the strength and flexibility required to ride more comfortably
- recovery: easing those post-riding muscles
- focus: your horse knows when your mind wanders!
- breathing: how to use your breath to develop tension-free riding.
Watch for details for this workshop coming up soon!

Being in the Now
|
Last month we asked you what you do to help you to live "in the moment." Here's what some of you had to say:
"In regards to your email update asking others how they stay present in the moment, I have come across a concept that I really connected with (from a book called Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gates and Katrina Kenison) about mindfulness: That mindfulness is about more than just paying attention. It is "paying attention with an abiding faith in a loving universe...When we pay attention with faith that we will be supported, then growth really is possible, our vision becomes clear, our path becomes unobstructed, and we are able to see the good in every person and situation". This quote has given me lots of food for thought! For years I have meditated on mindfulness and being present in the moment, but never while thinking about my faith in the universe to support me. It has helped challenge my feelings of trust and faith and opened me up a bigger spirituality within myself."
- Melanie Kheidr
"How do I stay connected to the present moment? Sometimes it is as simple as reading a story that my daughter has been begging for while I am busy making dinner, washing dishes, and folding laundry at the same time (is that even possible?). Those few simple moments away from my duties as a grown up remind me of what is truly important. Our favourite story is Someday by Alison McGee......It begins with the words " Sometimes when you sleep, I watch you dream and I dream too". It continues to list all of the things a mother dreams of for her child as she grows-- adventure, emotion, parentood. She ends the story by writing " Someday your hair will glow silver in the sun, and when that day comes love, you will remember me." These words remind me how fleeting each moment really is, and I am grateful, in that moment, that I found the common sense to spend a few of those precious moments with my child."
- Jacquelyn Toupin
Thank you for these heartfelt words of wisdom.

David Makepeace - Partnering with the Universe
|

David's talk in August was well attended, but so many of you have told me that you wished you could have made it, but the timing wasn't right. So, we've invited David back for another evening of exploring the personal through the universal.
For 20 years, David Makepeace has travelled the world to witness solar eclipses - a natural phenomenon that has been called the most spectacular event you can witness from earth. "When the shadow of the Moon sweeps over us, we are brought into direct contact with a tangible presence that is awe-inspiring. That there is a powerful relationship between us, and the immense forces of the universe becomes undeniable." What possible relationship could you have to the universe? How could it make a difference in your life?
With breathtaking film and video captured around the world at eclipse events, Makepeace takes us on a tour of our world and our solar system - widening the perspective on our lives as only an eclipse chaser can. Discover how the simple beauty and mystery of our world can open the door to a greater awareness of what we are and our place in the universe.
Makepeace, aka. "the pitchman for the universe," recently presented "Understanding Ourselves in an Epic Universe" at the TEDx conference in Toronto.
