Dear Friend of Naromi,
| Naromi is closing our current fiscal year and looking forward to Fiscal Year 2011. Naromi is grateful for the generous support from our members and the Sherman community.
Naromi has accomplished a great deal during the past year, including several stewardship projects at Babbling Brook Farm and the Hadlow Preserve, a new trail at the Mallory Preserve, and a hugely successful gala fundraiser.
Next year we are planning a disabled accessible boardwalk in the Wimisink Wildlife Sanctuary, a parking area and trail at the Towner Hill Preserve, another gala fundraiser in the fall, and several smaller stewardship projects.
Thank you so much for all your support during the past year. Please join us at the Annual Meeting to hear more about all that Naromi has done in the past year and all we look forward to in the next!

Falcons,
and Owls, and Hawks, Oh My! Have you seen the penetrating stare of an owl or hawk? Have you watched
a hawk soar above an open field or seen a falcon dart past you in pursuit? Ever
wanted to know more about these beautiful creatures? Do you believe seeing an owl is good luck or
bad luck? Naromi believes owls are signs of good luck, wisdom, and prosperity,
so we are featuring live falcons, owls, and hawks at Naromi's Annual Meeting
on July 9, 2010, at 6pm. We hope you
will join us! James Eyring is the featured presenter at
this summer's Annual Meeting. He is

Environmental Educator, and a Master Falconer "specializing" in birds of prey. The Falconry/Birds of Prey presentation
consists of the natural history of falconry, native raptors, habits and
adaptations and environmental insights. Mr. Eyring will bring live birds of prey including Harris Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Peregrine Falcon, Kestrel, Gyr/Saker Falcon, Barred Owl, and a
Screech Owl and will fly his Hawks and Falcons to the lure and glove. Mr. Eyring was raised in North Salem, NY,
and now lives in Carmel, NY. A
Naturalist and life-long wildlife enthusiast, he enjoys falconry, fishing,
kayaking, and hiking. The public is invited to the Naromi Land Trust meeting on Friday July 9th,

New Trail at Mallory Preserve
|
Naromi Board member Chris Jellen has completed a new half-mile loop trail in the Mallory Preserve (between the Sherman IGA and the Sherman Historical Society). This preserve is one of Naromi's most popular because of it's spectacular wooden boardwalk (renovated two years ago) and its convenient location. The new loop will take you back to the secluded and lovely Sawmill Brook.
Hunter Brawley flagged the route for the new trail. Chris then led a small team in opening up the new trail. Volunteers Denis and Dan Larkin assisted Chris with a saw, brush cutter, clippers and rakes to put the finishing touches on the trail.
The trail was dedicated "Chris's Crescent" on June 19th, at the Sherman Chamber Ensemble Town Picnic.
The Historical Society's campers learned orienteering & identified plants on the new loop the next week.
