The third annual parent/child service day, sponsored by the Crusader Club, was a huge success. Nearly 150 St. John's parents, students, friends and parishioners spent the morning of January 28 in the service of others throughout our community.
After meeting at the school for a brief welcome and snacks, participants scattered to projects at Reinhardt Elementary School, Mi Escuelita, CitySquare (formerly Central Dallas Ministries), Dallas Life Foundation and Juliette Fowler Homes.
Children, alongside their parents, completed age-appropriate activities, including getting their hands dirty while planting flowers; facilitating games and crafts for residents at a low-income apartment building; sorting donated toiletries into individual kits; serving meals and interacting with homeless clients; stocking and reorganizing a library; and visiting with senior citizens for an "adopt a grandparent" hour.
Many thanks to the St. John's dads who served in the important roles as project leaders: Jason Craven, Michael Mills, Alex Jimenez, Ken West and Steve Williamson.
