STATE LAW ALERT
car texting
Effective May 27, 2010
On Monday the Kansas governor signed a bill that bars all drivers from texting while driving.

The measure, House substitute for Senate Bill 300, allows law enforcement officers to pull over drivers who are sending, received or reading text messages or emails on their wireless devices while driving.
What You Should Know:

1.  The new law prohibits a person who is operating a motor vehicle on a public road from texting, which is defined as using a wireless communication device to write, send, or read a written communication.

2.  Until Jan. 1, 2011 officers will be handing out warning tickets, but after that the offense will carry a $60 fine.

3.  The law goes into effect when it is published in the Kansas Register, which is published every Thursday.
