Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act
no smoking
Effective July 1, 2010
Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson has signed the Kansas Indoor Clean Air Act, which will go into effect on July 1.

The state wide smoking ban will cover most public establishments including restaurants, bars, workplaces, taxicabs, limousines, common areas of private and public buildings, condominiums, and apartment buildings.

Smoking would still be permitted in private clubs, tobacco shops and the gaming floors of state-owned casinos.
What You Should Know

1.  The smoking ban extends to a ten-foot radius outside building access points,
such as doorways, open windows, and air intakes.

2.  Employers must adopt, maintain, and communicate to applicants and employees a written policy that prohibits smoking in all indoor workplaces.

3.  Employers must post no smoking signs that include the no smoking symbol and clearly state that smoking is prohibited by state law.

4.  The law protects applicants and employees who report violations of the law from retaliation by employer or property owner.
