It's all about OnStar
One question that we hear a lot at Gananoque Chevrolet Cadillac is, "can you tell me more about OnStar?" There is no doubt that most customers have heard about this service but until very recently it was not offered on all vehicles and it has always been a service which was perceived to be expensive and hard to use. The purpose of this article is to give those who have the system a bit more information and to educate those who do not use it regularly on its benefits.
The first point I would like to make is that the OnStar system was created for safety, security and convenience. The safety features which are built into the Basic OnStar package (Safe and Sound) mean that in the case of an accident, you and your passengers are completely protected. If your airbags deploy OnStar will contact you in your vehicle to find out what has happened. If they are unable to reach you they will dispatch emergency services to your location so that you will not be left at the side of the road in a dire situation. If you are involved in an accident and your airbags do not deploy simply press the red emergency OnStar button and you will be put through to the necessary emergency services who can best assist you. Also included in the Safe and Sound package are remote vehicle diagnostics, OnStar can diagnose vehicle problems while you are on the road and advise you of what to do. Monthly status emails from your vehicle, remind you of regular maintenance. Also included in the Safe and Sound Package is hands free calling, the phone linked to your OnStar system requires no key punching, and can store voice dial numbers. This means that while driving you never have to look away from the road to call home or any other numbers you have programmed. Plus since the OnStar phone is connected to all cell phone towers it will work where your normal cell phone may not.
It is obvious that OnStar has safety covered, but convenience is also a major concern for this company. When you pick the Directions and Connections Package you have a full time navigator and concierge at your finger tips! Simply push the blue OnStar button and an advisor will map your route and download it to your vehicle so you are always focused on the road and always know where you are going. Plus once you get to your destination simply hit the button again to find a restaurant for dinner and have OnStar book you a hotel. OnStar can even look up phone numbers and addresses of business and people you would like to see while you are away.
As I mentioned before OnStar has never been available on more GM vehicles than it is today. Plus with every new vehicle you get one year of Safe and Sound Free and three months of Directions and Connections. But, if you buy the Car of the year Cadillac CTS or North American Car of the year Chevrolet Malibu you get the full package free for a year!! There is even a Free Three Month Trial on used vehicles.
The Only way that OnStar can let you down is if you don't use it. All of the OnStar advisors and management encourage our customers to press the button any time they would like. The OnStar network has been set up for our customers and they love to hear from you as often as you need.

GM Introduces light duty diesel
The fertile minds at GM engineering have set automotive tongues wagging with news of a new V-8 diesel engine with no intake or exhaust manifold. The 4.5 litre duramax diesel, is slated for production at GM's Tonawanda, N.Y. engine plant next year. GM says will be one of the most powerful low-emitting and package-efficient light-duty engines in the world.The all new V-8 diesel engine will be used in light-duty pick-ups and the Hummer H2. By incorporating intake and exhaust functions with the valley of the turbocharged engine. Engineers were able to eliminate the bulky exterior exhaust manifolds, allowing the twin-cam, four valve diesel to fit within the same envelope as the compact, small-block V-8 gasoline engine. The new Duramax also does away with conventional intake manifolds. Intake ports are internal and, instead of being arrayed along the length of the head, they get their pressurized air/fuel mix directly through the top of the covers for the dual overhead camshafts.
GM says no compromises were necessary in arriving at the ultracompact design. At 310 horsepower and 520lb-ft of torque, it has class-leading power. That compares with 365hp and 660 lb-ft from the 46-per-cent-larger, current Duramax V-8. The new 4.5 litre engine boasts 25 per cent greater fuel efficency while reducing CO2 emissions by 13 percent and particulate and NO2, emissions by at least 90 per cent, allowing it to meet the ultrastringent 2010 emission standards in all states and provinces. Compared with the conventional 90-degrees of seperation, the cylinder banks of the new Duramax are splayed at 72 degrees to reduce overall width. Because of the inherent imbalance of the narrow angle, a balance shaft is employed. The alumimum cylinder heads are two -tiered internally with the intake and exhaust routes separated not only from each other, but also the water jacket and chain-driven valve-gear.
The new Duramax will be available in light-duty Chevrolet and GMC trucks and the Hummer H2 built after 2009. More details will be available once it has completed filing a number of patents. |

- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 pinch onion powder
- cayenne pepper to taste
- garlic powder to taste
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 6 ears corn, husked and cleaned
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat grill for medium-high heat.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the chili powder, oregano, onion powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Blend in the softened butter. Apply this mixture to each ear of corn, and place each ear onto a piece of aluminum foil big enough to wrap the corn. Wrap like a burrito, and twist the ends to close.
- Place wrapped corn on the preheated grill, and cook 20 to 30 minutes, until tender when poked with a fork. Turn corn occasionally during cooking.
