Greetings!
What if we could treat ourselves with the same kindness and understanding that we extend to others? | |
Kristin Neff
|
Kristin Neff is helping us tackle that question this month. In a new Greater Good interview, she discusses her pioneering research on "self-compassion"--and explains why self-compassion is so hard for many of us. You can read the interview, or listen to the podcast.
And to learn the skills of self-compassion yourself, join Neff for her upcoming Greater Good seminar, "Self-Compassion and Emotional Resilience." Attend in person if you're in Northern California--and watch the live webcast if you're not.
This month on Greater Good, you'll also find:

The Helping Cure
| | For years, research has shown that when we help others, we help ourselves: Altruism gives a strong boost to our minds and bodies.
This month we highlight two powerful examples. Jill Suttie, our book review editor, reports on a new line of research suggesting that service to others is a secret weapon in the fight against addiction.
Jill also highlights the work of Adversity to Advocacy, which helps people with various illnesses become activists, inspiring hope in themselves and others. |

GGSC in the News
| |
On Friday, the GGSC's Dacher Keltner co-wrote this New York Times opinion piece with Paul Piff about seven studies they've conducted that suggest the wealthy behave less ethically than the rest of us.
And last month on CNN.com, in the controversy around Whitney Houston's death, Greater Good Editor-in-Chief Jason Marsh identified lessons about heroism and compassion.
