HONOURING
From Gouana, Mali, Africa (Maman) Jemina Guindo 1933-2008
Maman Jemina went into the presence of the Lord on September 23. She is survived by her husband, Pastor Togo, missionary who has started many churches in Bamako, and by her 4 children and 11 grandchildren. A women of prayer. She left us with a great heritage by her example of dedication to her Lord. MMI team set up the pharmacy in a little mud shed built in her yard on our first outreach in Mali in 2004.
"We love you, Maman" | |

Dear MMI friends,
Service is costly and it commands a denial of our "self" to put others first. The Lord came as a servant and as followers of Christ, we are presented with this challenge to serve.
Reading the writings presented by the participants on the projects in July and August, we see how the people that we come to serve, are giving of themselves in ways that have touched OUR hearts.
I hope you will enjoy the readings and that you will be challenged to "serve" in new ways, where people will experience YOUR and HIS love.
Blessings

The goal: Serving (by Katie Broom) Nicaragua, July 26-Aug 2. When the medical team met with the pastor and nationals of our host church, I immediately felt an outpouring of friendship. They were immediately reaching out to us. At the end of that first meeting, Pastor Roberto asked us to pray that they would serve us well. That humbled me so. The desire to serve and to serve well was evident throughout the week. I was reminded that service is what we are put on this earth to do and this church seemed to be living that purpose.
(Katie is wearing a white t-shirt is working in the pharmacy. She has done numerous medical outreaches). |
MANY WAYS TO SERVE (By Rebecca Zerwick)
God uses the people we are serving to teach us. The church we had the pleasure of working along side was so attentive to the needs of their community and to ours. On the second day, we found locks on the bathroom doors because they noticed we had a buddy hold the doors shut for us. When we had the evening church service, they provided us with bottled water. Always giving sacrificially, loving, patient, and joyful is how I would describe the Nueva Jerusalem church members. Also,I met a women that was very infectious. I quickly came down with the same symptoms; I was joyful and smiling, intoxicated, and I just wanted to sit at her feet and listen. She was infected by the Spirit of the Lord. Her only ailment that she wished help for was for her bruised and aching knees. Why are her knees bruised? Because she is constantly prostrate and kneeling, praying to our Lord. This women is a light in the darkness and because she allows herself to bow down to the Lord, He is allowed to shine through her.

JOY OF SERVING (By Nancy Correia)
The experience was more than I ever expected. So many wonderful things happened, but a couple really stood out. An older woman opened her home to us & allowed us to use her bathroom. This sounds so simple, but every time I entered her home, she was smiling & would start clapping. I felt like a long lost relative being welcomed home. She would pray each time I left her home, with her hands in the air to praise her "PaPa". We had Christ in common and that was more than enough to understand what she was saying (in Spanish). The other memory still resting heavily on my heart is the children. The love they give is so great, that nothing else matters. They have little, in terms of material things, but they are happy. They give of themselves without any expectations that they will get something in return. I learned great lessons from the children of this village. I thought I was going to Peru to bring relief with medicine, but I learned about the ultimate gift . No medicine needed. Christ in my heart & the willingness to share Him, was all I needed. My life will be forever changed.
(Nancy was on her first medical project ever and joined the Peru team in August 23-30. She is here with the Kids covering her with love). | |
