Face to Face
(submitted by Abi (Gail) Dufour)

Thursday, on the 4th day of the clinic, we were visited by a small boy. He came alone from the field where he works most of the day. He is six years old. His feet were swollen and painful with large cracks in his skin. As I cleansed his feet and medicated them, I thought of Jesus when Mary was cleansing His feet and how he must have felt the love Mary had for Him. I wondered if this child ever felt the touch of love before, ever has his feet rubbed before. As I applied his dressings and bandages, I realized I had come face to face with the first candidate for the Dorcas Center. He came alone from the fields where he will work the rest of his life. He returns to those same fields, until the doors of the Dorcas Center open. How many more children will I come face to face with, all candidates for the Center, walking back to their homes. Their only hope for change will be when the Dorcas Center opens its doors, offering education, a future, and the love of Jesus Christ.

Dear friends of the mission,

We have just completed our first medical/construction project in Sirakoro, Mali.  The weather is surprisingly cool at this time of the year, which delights the construction team working on the Dorcas Center.  This project is progressing nicely with the foundation of the dorm completed.  This week the crew will start to erect the walls.

The medical clinic at Sirakoro was a great success.  775 patients received consultations and 234 made a confession of faith in the Lord Jesus.  Even during the night of "celebration" many publicly confessed their faith in the Lord and sought healing.

We made many friends during the outreach and visited also the church where we held the clinic last November.  We brought them words of encouragement in their task to follow up with the people who made commitment to the Lord.  They were extremely pleased with the visit and gave us chicken as an expression of friendship.  We put the chickens in the van and while we were out eating our lunch one chicken laid an egg on the floor of the van.  Unfortunatly, the peace offering from the chicken didn't move the cook.

This week we are starting our second outreach in a rural setting.  The pharmacy will be inside the mud built church and the clinic will be held in an annexe made of grass and stacks of corn.

We are expecting many patients.

We will count it a privilege if you would join us in this outreach with your prayers.

Thanks!
May the Lord bless you all!

NICARAGUA - by Mary Ezzell

I am so grateful for the time I had to rest, play, learn, seek God, and visit with loved ones during my five-month "home-assignment" in the United States this past Fall and Winter.   I spent the majority of time with my sending church in Greenville, SC.  It was refreshing to strengthen my relationship with the church after living in Nicaragua for three years.  It was also encouraging to witness how the church is seeking to strengthen its commitment to minister in Nicaragua by planning to send medical, youth, and teaching teams to Nicaragua in 2008.

During the time in the USA, I enjoyed hiking in the mountains, running a half-marathon, eating a wide variety of foods (I stayed away from rice and beans, knowing there'd be plenty waiting for me in Nicaragua), snowshoeing in fresh CO snow, and celebrating Thanksgiving with my family for the first time in 4 years.  I was truly blessed by God in so many ways over the past few months and am thankful for the time He gave me in the USA.

I feel ready once again to serve in Nicaragua and to host North American medical teams that go to spiritually and physically bless Nicaragua.  Thank you for your interest in serving on medical teams and I look forward to seeing you in Nicaragua soon!

Enthusiastically,

Mary
