At the heart of the edible Food Fest are educational programs on sustainable agriculture, organic gardening, soil and composting, seed saving, edible landscaping and other means of healthier living.

Civil War Commemoration Weekend
August 17 - 19

Geeky about the Civil War? Or just want to see what all this 150th Commemoration stuff is all about?

Immerse yourself as deep as you would like with a weekend full of Civil War Commemoration activities:

Gen. Samuel McGowan
Gen. Samuel McGowan

* Visit Montpelier for a weekend of skirmishes, dress parades, and Civil War history, where General Samuel McGowan's South Carolinians encamped during the winter of 1863-1864. Watch re-enactors use Civil War-era tools and techniques to rebuild the huts once occupied by McGowan's troops.

* Tour the Gilmore Farm, home of George Gilmore, who was born a slave at Montpelier and emancipated after the Civil War.

* View the period dress Fashion Show on the steps of Dolley Madison's Montpelier.

* On Main Street: watch "The Blue and the Gray in Orange" parade, commemoration event of the Battle on Main Street.

* The "Blue and the Gray in Orange" continues around the block with period Civil War music, drill demonstrations, living history demonstrations, and southern cooking with period recipes (no hard tack - don't worry!)
