Orange County Farmer's Market
Be a "Locavore"

Every Wednesday and Saturday at the Farmers Market across the street, we stock up on eggs, vegetables, and fruit produced within 100 miles of Orange.

In addition, we are currently featuring tomatoes and cantaloupe grown by Sharon's dad only 3 miles from the Holladay House!

When produce is allowed to completely ripen before harvesting, it is sweeter, more falvorful, and richer in color. Enjoy local produce at breakfast, and stop by the Farmers Market to take some home to remember your trip!

New Digs at the Holladay House

Artifacts recovered from the Holladay House backyardAs many of you know, we have begun some exterior improvements, one of which is landscaping our backyard.  When we removed an old walkway and dug into the dirt embankment behind the house, we uncovered a number of middle to late 19th century artifacts that reflect the domestic history of this Main Street landmark. The area we inadvertantly found was likely a "midden," a term archaeologists use to identify areas where past occupants discarded broken valuables, domestic items, and other trash. We recovered enough artifacts to prompt us to begin planning a formal archaeological survey and excavation of other areas in the back yard. Artifacts include ceramic shards from pottery and dinnerware, fragments of brick, mortar, coal, and bone, oyster shells,  cut nails, and even an intact medicine bottle! Who would expect that, as an innkeeper, Sam would get a chance to put his archaeology training to work?
