"Many of the 2012 Oscar-Nominated Stars got their start as children"

 

The 84th Annual Oscar Nominations are out! And Children In Film thinks you'll be thrilled to see how early many of these A-list celebs got their start.  

These actors received nominations...

Name: Demian Bichir

Nominated for: Actor in a Leading Role; A Better Life

Got his start: Age 14; a telenovela called Rina (actor); 1977

 

Name: George Clooney

Nominated for: Actor in a Leading Role; The Descendants

Got his start: Age 7; The Nick Clooney Show (actor, stage hand); 1968

 

Name: Gary Oldman

Nominated for: Actor in a Leading Role; Ticker Tailor Solider Spy

Got his start: Age 18; won a scholarship to Britain's Rose Bruford Drama College in 1976

 

Name: Michelle Williams

Nominated for: Actress in a Leading Role; My Week with Marilyn

Got her start: Age 13; with numerous supporting roles on TV shows such as Baywatch in 1993 and Step by Step in 1994 

 

Name: Berenice Bejo

Nominated for: Actress in a Supporting Role; The Artist    

Got her start: Age 17; in a short film entitled Pain Perdu; 1993

 

Name: Jessica Chastain

Nominated for: Actress in a Supporting Role; The Help

Got her start: dancing at the age of 9 and then participating in Bay-area stage productions.

  

These young actors (former and current) were in films which received nominations...

  

Name: Emma Stone

Nominated for: Emma starred in The Help, nominated for Best Picture

Got her start: Age 11; at the Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, where she made her stage debut in a production of Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows."   

 

Name: Thomas Horn

Nominated for: He is among the star-studded cast of Extremely Loud, Incredibly Close nominated for Best Picture

Got his start: Age 13; this is Horn's first performance ever. He was discovered via his appearance on Jeopardy.

 

Names: Hunter McCracken, Laramie Eppler, Tye Sheridan 

Nominated for: These young men worked alongside Brad Pitt in The Tree of Life, nominated for Best Picture.

Got their starts: All under the age of 15; The Tree of Life is one of the first official credits for each of these boys.  That said, like many young actors, their path to success started long before these roles.

 

Name: Jeremy Irvine

Nominated for: He is one of the stars of War Horse, nominated for Best Picture

Got his start: His first credited TV series is entitled Life Bites at age 19, but he began pursuing acting long before landing that role studying at the National Youth Theatre and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.  

 

Name: Emma and Eleanor Henry

Nominated for: These twins were "kind, smart and important," sharing the role of Mae Mobley in The Help, nominated for Best Picture

Got their start: The Help is the first credited role for these young twin girls, although they started their careers before the age of 5 sharing a role as twins often do.

 

Name: Nick Krause 

Nominated for: Krause was in the film The Descendants, which was nominated for Best Picture

Got his start: Age 12; in a TV series called Jack & Bobby. Note: his co-star Amara Miller, lists The Descendants as her first credited role.

  

Many child actors get their start long before their first credited role.  It is important to note that success takes time.  Children In Film is an excellent way to start down your path to success.
