Interview:  Hollywood Agent to the Stars

Seeking to be represented by someone who works with Hollywood's it-kids? Find out what a talent agent for some of today's top child actors looks for when seeking new clients.

Children In Film is focusing on "Finding Representation" this month, so we interviewed talent agent, Mitchell Gossett, who is well known for working with A-list celebs and rising young talent.  If you aspire for top-tier representation, you'll want to read what he has to say.

What type of talent do you represent and for what types of projects?

I represent actors of all ages with a special eye and focus on young talent.

What do you look for in new potential talent? What's your way of determining if they have the "it" factor?

I can't share my "secrets," :) but I have a masters degree in acting as well as 17 years of representing actors. I balance what I know the studios and networks often respond to along with a sense of talent when I see it. Sometimes it only takes a moment for me to see an actor losing themselves in a role - even if briefly. Those are moments I look for - when an actor gets out of their head and acts from within, from an internal place. You'd be surprised how rare that is.

Do you consider your roster to be large or small compared to other agents? Is your agency large or small?

My agency is a big wonderful agency and my roster is a small wonderful roster.

How should a CIF member schedule an interview with you?

For me it would require a manager referral or a significant body of work.

Certain agencies with A-list clientele often require significant experience and/or a referral before considering new talent. Consider gaining representation with a manager who has agent contacts with whom you aspire to one day connect.

When is the best time of year, for you and your agency, to find and meet with new potential talent?

I'm never closed.
