  The Paperwork Prep

"Preparing everything from permits to passports"

The entertainment industry is filled with paperwork.  You'd think everyone could do it all online by now, but the industry is not quite there yet.  Thankfully Children In Film has the information and tools you need.

Headshots

Every aspiring actor is in need of a good headshot. The headshot is your first impression on any potential agent or manager, and will be the tool casting directors use in order to determine who they'd like to see at an audition. While some parents make the decision to wait to get good headshots until after they are signed with representation, this can often lead to a dead end.  If your headshots are not up to industry standard, it may prevent you from getting an initial interview.  Do you need to spend hundreds on expensive headshots? No, not necessarily. You can learn how to take great photos on your own provided you follow some simple tips and tricks, or you can hire a young photographer just starting out. Want to know if your headshots stack up against the rest? Compare them with winners of Children In Film's Photo Contest.

Resumes

The good news is that one important piece of paperwork your minor must have is a solid resume, and that can be done online via your easy-to-use Children In Film profile which, if you are an Enhanced Member, is what industry pros use to find talent like you!  We encourage everyone to read our section on photos and resumes (available to Enhanced and Basic members) to make sure that these important pieces of paperwork are up to speed.

Essential Documents

Maybe you've seen this scenario: your child books a job and your family couldn't be more excited!  You get word from your agent about the job, where the shoot will be, and what you need to wear.  You inform your school that your child will be missing class, and you collect the proper study materials and assignments.  You pack a bag with snack items, school items and extra things to keep you both busy. (It sounds like you've been following the KidStart Program - good job).

The day of the shoot arrives; excitement and nerves are high.  You report to the set. You feel prepared, you've listened to your agent, and you're ready to go... at least you thought you were.

Did your permit expire? Are you not sure how to fill out tax documents for your child?  Did you forget to open a Coogan Account? Inevitably there will be documents to fill out that you may or may not have been warned about.

Consider this your warning.  We want you to be prepared!
