What do successful child actors have in common? At Children In Film we believe that successful children come from parents who have figured out how to effectively navigate the showbiz industry. There is a trend amongst such parents: they believe in family first, they know who they are and who their children are, they've done their research, and most importantly they remain parents first.
"I'm not concerned about raising stars or famous people," said
Angela Williams, mother of Tyler James Williams (
Everybody Hates Chris). "I'm concerned
about raising leaders and trailblazers. The industry will take care of
itself."
The Fame & Fortune section of ChildrenInFilm.com features
Success Stories and interviews with such parents who go above and beyond - we call them Power Parents. While their children have earned their time in the limelight, these parents have kept them grounded and in a role that is often thankless, deserve to be commended.
In interviewing our Power Parents, Children In Film seeks to find the trends that remain consistent in the families that experience success and they often provide us with excellent insight.
"I would advise [parents] not to downsize how important the role of "parent"
truly is," commented
Dianna DeLaGarza, mother to Demi Lovato (
Sonny with a Chance). "Be your child's support system. Encourage them and support
them in everything that they do. The first step to getting started is
to determine whether or not your child has a passion for the industry.
Then get them training. Educate yourself as much as possible and have
faith. Everything else will work itself out one step at a time."
The advice from our Power Parents is invaluable and we hope that you will take the time to read their stories.
