ChildrenInFilm.com is designed to connect parents to the information and individuals they need to know in order to launch their children's careers.
Also supporting a similar mission is
The Oakwood Toluca Hills, a temporary housing provider which greatly enhances the efforts of entertainment families by providing them with resources, events and connections.
Today Oakwood is Hollywood's number one housing provider for parents and child actors who come from all over the country in hopes of pursing their entertainment dreams.
Rosie Forti, Activities Coordinator at The Oakwood, heads up the Child Actor program that the Oakwood community provides. Through the years, the Oakwood has hosted thousands of child actors such as Hillary and Hailey Duff, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sterling Knight, Vincent Martella and many more whose photos now line the walls of Rosie's office.
"We've been running the program since 1991 and it all started because of a need for short term housing in LA for the purpose of auditions, " explained Rosie. "We realized that we had a market for young actors who needed to be educated in the industry. We started bringing in guest speakers like
Trisha Simmons,
Adrian R'Mante and it turned Oakwood into a learning ground rather than a playground while they were in LA."
Rosie explained that by providing kids and their families with an entertainment education, their time at Oakwood is well spent.
"When an opportunity knocks there's a chance they may get the part," she said. "But they have to hone their skills and know their craft to be ready when they're called into a casting call."
Families at Oakwood are provided with a comfortable place to connect to other families in the industry. Best of all the Oakwood is a gated community located near many Hollywood studios, and they offer everything from a gym to dry cleaners and car rentals to tutors during the school year.
Rosie brings in professionals to educate the families rather than simply relying on her own knowledge after many years of industry-related experience.
"We go strait to the source," Rosie said. "We bring in the pros so that parents are getting accurate information from people who can actually help to futher their careers," Rosie said.
"Rosie...I can't say enough good things about her," said Wendy Casa, mother of Ryan and Alyssa Casa. "She works so hard at
making the child actor program great but she also does other things for
all residents that are fun like Sunday Brunch and potluck suppers."Oakwood has quickly become the place where child actors live. Ask most any family where they intend to stay when they travel to LA and the name "Oakwood" will usually come up. To add to its claims to fame, Oakwood has been featured on
Prime Time and on a French television show called
Envoy.
Aspiring child-actor families will tell you that Los Angeles is expensive, and if you're searching for housing you'll want to make sure you get the most for your money.
