What Not to Wear
Make sure you're dressing for the part!
In a popular TLC TV show, hosts tackle unsuspecting guests who clearly need a wardrobe overhaul. And while these fashion faux-pas seem obvious to the average viewer, the participants are completely clueless. When it comes to fashion, they're missing the boat all together.
As a parent to a child actor, no matter what your son or daughter's age, we're pretty sure you know some obvious wardrobe do's and don'ts...like making sure your teenage daughter's skirt length is appropriate. However, there are a few showbiz-specific fashion tips that you may not know about.
Keep consistent for call backs: While you may think it a great idea to completely change your look for a call back, this is not recommended. Yes, it seems like it would be a great opportunity to show the casting director your many looks, however, they brought you back for a reason. Don't confuse them with a completely new hair style or an outfit so different from the last that they don't remember you.
Watch the little things: Stay away from stripes (they bounce on camera), logos and busy patterns because they are distracting. Avoid wearing jewelry, especially body piercings unless you feel it really suits the potential part. And make sure your clothes are clean, pressed and presentable.
Fashion rules that may or may not apply: A lady always wears pantyhose right? Well, not anymore really. We're not sure when it happened exactly, but somewhere around 2007 the once-mandatory hose (sheers, not tights) became a fashion faux-pas. And what about white after Labor Day? This rule has slid a bit too. A white accessory like a scarf, bag or pair of winter-white pants can work well.
