Greetings!

October is already here and coming up is the first of two shop closures we will have. If you or your pet take supplements, be aware of legislation (federal) and FDA guidelines that could make it difficult or impossible to get them. There are new Punch Card savings available for Day Care clients. We are starting our on going "Garage Sale". GHS is having its Annual Pet Festival on October 29, along with a 2012 Calendar Pet Photo contest.

Early October shop closure dates- 10/5-13+

Our shop will be closed October 5-13, no 24/7 pickup will be available October 5-14, and October 7 will be a "skip" week for Obedience classes (classes resume October 14).

Our next expected closure dates are:
October 26-31 (and partial day on Nov. 1)

November 20-21

Future exceptions, for your planning purposes, are always posted on our website, under "Contacts" (scroll down).   And we always put it on our outgoing phone message, when the shop is closed.

FDA Seeks to Ban Supplements (vitamins, fish oil, etc.)

If you or your pet take supplements (vitamins, fish oil, herbs, etc.) be aware that there is Federal Legislation (S. 1310) and FDA Draft Guidelines that may regulate supplements out of existence. I would urge you to contact your Alaska delegation to urge them to vote against S. 1310, and for you to comment on and oppose the proposed Dietary Supplement Guidelines.

These are two separate but directly related issues.

GHS Pet Festival-Oct. 29
The Annual Pet Festival, sponsored by the Gastineau Humane Society, is scheduled for Oct. 29 at the JACC.  They are also having a 2012 Calendar Photo Contest. If you have a photo(s) of your pet that you would like to submit, go to their website at www.ghspet.org, to Special Events, for the details.

We plan on having a table at the event, with lots of fun activities, so be sure to stop by.  We plan on having the interactive puzzles again, for your dog to try out, taste tests for them to check out, and interactive play balls.

New Day Care Punch Card Savings

Starting September 26, we have introduced new Punch Card savings, on both our Standard and Deluxe Day Care, full or half days.  We have recently added a whole new variety of activities to our Boarding and Day Care services.  Replacing the previous format, all Day Care clients will receive a punch card, with discounts applied after every five sessions. Any combination of full or half days, Standard or Deluxe services applies.

Many thanks to everyone who has shared the results of their taste tests on all the new foods we have been introducing.  It really has helped us to know what the dogs think about them.

Sincerely,

Martha Fischbach, CTTP, CPG
