Canines Unlimited Newsletter

September 17, 2007
  Greetings!

New products, new classes, new foods and fun "dog opinion" activities to try with your dog(s)...lots has been happening lately!  Try your own "opinion" poll with your dog, and see what they tell you about their drinking water.  See below.

There is a wonderful article on the benefits and uses of honey, in the Whole Dog Journal (WDJ) September 2007 issue.  The healing affects of honey for humans has long been known.
I found this particularly interesting for the uses relative to allergies in dogs.  You are welcome to come and peruse my copy, at the shop during regular shop hours, if you don't have a copy of your own.

Welcome to our grooming clients, who have been added to the mailing list, because so many of you have expressed interest in receiving information that affects you and your dogs.  Unsubscribing is easy at any time if you do not wish to receive the notices and newsletters.

Meditate with your Dog, starts Sept. 26

Fluoride for Pets?  Learn more...
Learn more about the effects of fluoride, for people and pets.  Let's ask the experts about it, and make an informed choice on October 2.
Dr. Hardy Limeback, Ph.D., DDS, will be giving presentations, Sept. 20, 7:00pm, UAS Egan Lecture Hall, and Sept. 21, 7:00pm, Assembly Chambers.  Brought to you by Juneau Citizens for Safe Water.  For more information, please see Fluoride in Juneau, and Juneau Citizens for Safe Water.
To view the flyer on the upcoming presentations on Sept. 20 and 21, please see Limeback flyer.

DOG OPINION POLL:
Find out what your dog (or any pet) thinks about the water they drink.  Put out a selection of choices, label them so you know which is what, and observe which one(s) your pet chooses to drink.
My dogs preferred rain water, spring or artesian water, or even Smart Water (with electrolytes) (when they weren't feeling well).  Given a choice, they would not drink tap water.

PetzLife Oral Care reports...from customers

Karen Paulick reports great results!  She said:

Martha:
My 7 yr old yellow lab was scheduled to go in for a teeth cleaning at the vet, and I was just dreading it (I didn't want him to have to go under anesthesia).  That was when you sent out an announcement about Petzlife Dental Care.  So I cancelled the vet appointment and started using Petzlife (2 times a day for 7-10 days, then once a day for several weeks after that). My dog's teeth have gone from yellowish brown to white, his gums are no longer red, and no more bad breath.  It is really remarkable.  Thank you for finding this awesome product.

Dog's teeth after using Petzlife
PS.  Note on the larger tooth there is still a little bit of brown discoloration.  That was over at least 50% of the tooth before PetzLife.  And the gums are not red any more.
Thanks, Karen!  Other customers are reporting similar results.
Barkin' Basement Bargains
We are starting our ongoing "Bargain Sale" which includes equipment and supplies (many of them new or almost new), dog supplies, household goods, and more.  Items will be listed on our website, or you may view them at the shop, during normal shop hours. See Bargains.
Rabies Challenge Fund and Study
Do our pets really need rabies vaccinations every 1-3 years?  Many experts and veterinarians are thinking differently.  Now, a study is being conducted to collect data and find out.  Please see Rabies Challenge,
for links to lots of information.
Remember our next shop closure will be October 21-30, for training.

Sincerely,

Martha Fischbach
