Greetings!
The Sitka Chamber of Commerce Luncheon will be at noon on Wednesday, May16th . Our guest speaker will be Ken Fate, General Manager of Raven Radio. Ken will be talking about Raven Radio's new Radio to Go emergency broadcast system, the highlights of thirty years of community radio, the recent Cable House Renovations and Raven Radio's plans for the future.
Ken began working at Raven Radio as Chief Announcer in 1990, arriving from the University of Idaho where he managed the student radio station while earning a degree in telecommunications and advertising. Fate became the Program Director in 1993 and General Manager in 2004. Ken's wife Rachel is the office manager for the Law Office of Brandon Marx and they enjoy working on their house, kayaking and herding their four cats. Ken is also the drummer for the local dance band "Glorious Youth Parade" and penned "Plumber in Thong", one of their most beloved tunes.
For lunch this week, Chef Randy will be serving Rockfish Olympia with rice pilaf and baked asparagus, soup, salad and cookies for dessert.

J-1 Program Safe Until November
J-1 Program Safe Until November Changes to the J-1 Visa program were announced Friday by the State Department. While some changes take effect immediately, Alaska's seafood processors- which rely heavily on the workforce the program provides- won't be affected until November. It's a relief for the processors and fishermen who are preparing for salmon season, but it's not great news for local cannery workers in Kodiak who are struggling to make ends meet.
