Welcome to Sitka Day The Chamber of Commerce is planning the 4th Welcome to Sitka Day to welcome the passengers and crew of the first cruise ship of the 2012 season. Next Thursday, May 3rd, the ms Zaandam will arrive at 7am and will lighter under the O'Connell bridge.
Citizens are encouraged to come down to Crescent Harbor Shelter to help welcome the passengers from the first cruise ship of the season! This is a great opportunity to show the Cruise Industry how happy we are that they have included Sitka on their voyage through Alaska. Our visitor industry is vital to Sitka's economy and this is one more way to raise awareness and show our support!

Newly Release Alaska Visitor Statistics
The Alaska Visitor Statistics Program (AVSP) provides state government and the tour industry essential information on out-of-state visitors. AVSP VI (the sixth generation of the program) consists of two main components: Visitor Volume - The visitor volume estimate is a count of the number of out-of-state visitors exiting Alaska, by transportation mode, during the study period. Visitor Survey - The visitor survey is administered to a sample of out-of-state visitors departing Alaska at all major exit points. The survey includes questions on trip purpose, transportation modes used, length of stay, destinations, lodging, activities, expenditures, satisfaction, trip planning, and demographics. The report also includes detailed visitor statistics for Southeast Alaska and Sitka. Download the full report from the state website: http://www.dced.state.ak.us/ded/dev/toubus/research.htm |

From The Director
It was great having Sitka Trail Works present at lunch last week. I was so inspired by their presentation that my boyfriend and I hiked over to Sea Lion Cove and camped on the white sand beach this past weekend. What a fun adventure and what a great job they do on our trails.
As always, thanks for reading and have a great week!
