The U.S. Forest Service is supporting a collaborative effort with the Sitka community to create an Outdoor Recreation Plan for the area. One of the goals is to "further strengthen and diversify the businesses and employment opportunities that keep Sitka a vibrant community". SITKA WHALEFEST
 This is the week for all sorts of activities taking place as part of the Sitka Whalefest. It all starts with a Sea Chantey concert and Student Marine Art Show Reception at 6:30 Thursday at Harrigan Centennial Hall.
On Friday at 11am the Market at WhaleFest opens and the fun begins - with lectures and whale watching trips, the Maritime Grind, a game between scientist, a run, a great dinner - all weekend, through Sunday afternoon. Check out the schedule, and get out and enjoy the festival. Thanks to WhaleFest ED, Holly Keen, and all the volunteers who bring this wonderful event to Sitka.

 SALES TAX FREE DAYS Sitkans will again enjoy two Sales Tax Free shopping days, on November 26 and 27, right after Thanksgiving. Check out your local stores, who are sure to offer some deals you can't resist.
Every time we spend our money locally, the dollars return to us through more goods and services purchased, more jobs, more sales tax revenues generated and more dollars supporting local charities and schools.
