The ladies at The Cellar

Last week on the UAF campus, 45 Alaska high school students met to learn about how real businesses work, as well as the important role that business plays in keeping our country strong. Along the way, they learned some powerful leadership, communications and inter-personal  skills. They worked their way through eight quarters of a business simulation: making production, marketing, human resources, ethical, environmental and financial decisions that determined how well their company would succeed.

By the end of the week, each team held stockholder presentations and participated in a trade show at which they had to compete for investor dollars. Company A (A*Tech) was a dynamic group that consistently placed near the top in all the competitions.

From the Director

SheilaI'm back in the office, having been energized and inspired by the high school students at the inaugural Alaska Business Week (ABW). I encourage everyone to support the program next year by sending your kids, sponsoring, or volunteering as a Company Advisor, as I did. It's a great program that will help the next generation understand and appreciate the value of for-profit businesses. We anticipate seeing ABW graduates out there in the business world soon, helping to keep Alaska strong and growing.

Thank you for reading. Please call or email with questions or comments, or to suggest topics for inclusion in this newsletter.
