POWER BOAT RACE TO ALASKA
Fred & Linda Cole's Mouse Trap
Fred & Linda Cole's Mouse Trap
A group of yachters belonging to the International Power Boat Association is headed to Sitka in the 'Race to Alaska'. Having left Olympia in late May, they are planning to complete their 'capital to capital' Predicted Log Race in Juneau on July 2. More importantly to us, they will arrive in Sitka on Saturday, June 26, and spend two days with us, not leaving until June 29 (their longest layover). The Chamber office is receiving daily updates on their progress and plans to welcome them on their arrival. This is the type of independent travelers we love to see in Sitka. Please contact our office if you would like to receive the daily progress reports or join us in welcoming the group.
4TH OF JULY

"Sitka, a Distinctive City in a Distinctive Nation"
is this year's theme for the 4th of July, based on our award as one of the 2010 Dozen Distinctive Destinations.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation website states,  "The town boasts a history dating back 10,000 years when the Tlingit Natives migrated to what is now the largest remaining temperate rainforest in the world.  Later, Sitka became the Russian-American capital and was known as the "Paris of the Pacific." Many of the sites and traditions that make up Sitka's cultural heritage are still at the center of daily life in the bustling downtown."

The Booths will be coordinated by Eagle Quest Ministries. Call Jessica Clark at 738-3801 to sign up.
The Parade will be coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce. Call Sheila at 747-8604 to sign up. The parade will be on Sunday, July 4, beginning at 2pm. Former Senator Dick Eliason will be this year's Grand Marshall.
ALASKA BUSINESS WEEK
Alaska Business Week

There's still time to register your high school student for the first Alaska Business Week, sponsored by the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce. Applications and more information are available at the Alaska State Chamber.

The camp will be held August 8-14, on the UAF campus, and is open to 100 9-12 grade students from all over Alaska. Over the course of the week, they will have hands-on experience in running a company - mentored by an outstanding group of business people from major companies.

The $325 tuition covers housing, food and program materials. The student will need to cover the cost of the trip Fairbanks. The Sitka Chamber of Commerce is coordinating resources from local businesses and individuals to help cover travel costs. Give our office a call at 747-8604 after acceptance into the camp.
