YOU COUNT IN SITKA ~ 2010 CENSUS
Census-hands

Sitka's participation rate is now at 47%, while the nation is at 60%. Since some residents still may not have received their survey, we're not doing too badly, but we want to see our rate rise significantly. Sitka's Complete Count Committee has set a goal of 80%. If we reach that, we'll have a community wide celebration.

For the sake of the funds that come to Sitka, as well as our congressional representation, we need everyone to stand up and be counted. Its EASY, IMPORTANT, and SAFE, and everyone's participation is vital. We move forward when you send it back. To learn more, visit the 2010 Census.

STATE OF SITKA'S ECONOMY

SEDA logoOn Wednesday, April 28, at 1:15pm, (after Chamber lunch), SEDA will present the annual State of Sitka's Economy, at Centennial Hall.

This study and presentation has been done by the McDowell Group for several years. It's a good opportunity to look at how our economy has done over the past year, and to talk about how we'd like to move forward.
BBB SETS FORTH STANDARDS OF TRUST

Anchorage, Alaska - April 5, 2010 - Better Business Bureau regularly reports on unethical business practices, fly-by-night operators, and scam companies, but BBB also commends good businesses for balancing the marketplace.

BBB Business of the Year Torch Awards honor businesses in Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington; winners will be announced in April.

"BBB doesn't only report the bad, we also report information about hard-working local businesses," said Robert W.G. Andrew, CEO of BBB serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington. "It's nice to hear about the honest role models setting an example of ethics and integrity in the marketplace."

BBB serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington offers praise to ethical businesses and encourages adherence to BBB's  Standards of Trust.

Build trust. Establish and maintain a positive track record in the marketplace.

Advertise honestly. Adhere to established standards of advertising and selling.

Tell the truth. Honestly represent products and services, including clear and adequate disclosures of all material terms.

Be transparent. Openly identify the nature, location, and ownership of the business, and clearly disclose all policies, guarantees and procedures that bear on a customer's decision to buy.

Honor promises. Abide by all written agreements and verbal representations.

Be responsive. Address marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good faith.

Safeguard privacy. Protect any data collected against mishandling and fraud, collect personal information only as needed, and respect the preferences of consumers regarding the use of their information.

Embody integrity. Approach all business dealings, marketplace transactions and commitments with integrity.
