ANNUAL CHAMBER AWARDS

At Saturday's Annual Chamber Banquet, the Chamber of Commerce and banquet guests honored a business and an individual who should have been feted years ago.

Chamber President, Cory Baggen, Dick Eliason & last year's winner, Deborah Lyons
Cory, Dick & Deborah
Richard 'Dick' Eliason
was given the Cossack Cap award for his outstanding service to Sitka and to the State of Alaska for so many years. The announcement speech had some in the audience close to tears, as we were reminded of the amazing things that Dick accomplished during his many years of work in the fishing industry and his service in both the local assembly and the state legislature.

COAST GUARD WELCOME BAGS
When members of the Coast Guard are billeted to Sitka, the individuals and families are often concerned about what the weather will be like, what shopping and services will be available, etc. They need information and assurances that they will find the things they need here in Sitka.
The Chamber of Commerce is working with the City of Sitka and the Coast Guard Spouses Association to put together some nice Welcome Bags for the new personnel who come in each spring.
If you would like to share information or offers with new Coast Guard families, please contact Hospitality Coordinator, Summer Sustachek via email or at 623-9900. You can also mail her 50 copies of your offering to PO Box 1184, to be included in the bags for this spring.
YOU COUNT IN SITKA!
Census-hands
Most people in Sitka should have received the 2010 Census survey by now or will very soon. Once you've spent the ten minutes to complete and drop yours in the mail, please take the time to talk with others about the importance of being counted.

Only by telling the government how many of us are here in Sitka, can we get the representation we deserve and the funds that support so many of our necessary services.

Its EASY, IMPORTANT, and SAFE, and everyone's participation is vital. We move forward when you send it back. To learn more, visit the 2010 Census.
