Governor Parnell is Alaska's 10th governor. Parnell was elected as Alaska's lieutenant governor in November 2006 and became Governor in July 2009. The Parnell administration is focused on two priorities: creating economic opportunity and safe, healthy families. Parnell is devoted to ensuring a stable, steady economy and to helping Alaskans build a good life in the 49th state.

LINCOLN DAY DINNER

The 2010 Lincoln Day Dinner is this Wednesday, February 17,beginning at 6pm, at the Channel Club. On the menu is prime rib or halibut, following a cocktail hour and silent auction.

The ladies at The CellarGovernor Sean Parnell will be the guest speaker. He will be accompanied by First Lady, Sandy Parnell. Tickets, at $40, are on sale now. Reservations may be made by calling Lureen Stedman at 747-8905. Tickets are going fast.

This annual event is hosted locally by the Sitka Republican Women, and by Republicans nationwide, to honor the nation's 16th president and the first Republican president.

The Sitka Republican Women are grateful to Jeff Olsen, of Absolute Fresh Seafoods, for donating all the halibut for the dinner.

This award, as one of the 2010 Dozen Distinctive Destinations, will help attract visitors from all over the world who are interested in visiting historically and culturally distinctive locations.

Sitka has also been nominated as one of "America's Coolest Small Towns" by Budget Travel Magazine. If you add your nomination online, Sitka could win the Readers Choice Award.

The Budget Travel site has a huge following of travelers who are looking for unique and affordable places to visit. The nomination alone helps to put us on the map and attract those independent travelers we love. How cool is that?
