Are you a history buff? You don't have to look hard to see Boulder's past
Boulder celebrated its 150th anniversary last year and the town's history is evident in a number of places around town.
The Boulder History Museum is located in a 12- bedroom house, built in 1899, in the University Hill area. It has a grand staircase and a large Tiffany stained-glass window. It's open everyday except Mondays. The Hotel Boulderado was built in 1909 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The lobby has a stained glass ceiling and cantilevered cherry wood staircase.
The Colorado Chautauqua is a National Historic Landmark made up of historic buildings on 26 acres of stunning land at the foot of Boulder's mountains. The buildings - a restaurant, auditorium, community room, academic hall, and cottages - were built in the late 1800's. Art Source International, a retail shop on the Pearl Street Mall, has many historic photos of Boulder on display and for sale. Right outside the shop's door is a historical placard - you'll see more historical placards along the Mall. A local bus tour and a walking tour both give historical tours through Boulder in the summer and fall. You'll hear about Boulder's history and see unfamiliar places. Historic Boulder Inc. and our local Carnegie Library are also good resources.
The historic walking map is full of details and a great place to start exploring Boulder's past.
